If you are searching for Incfile, you are searching for a name the company retired. It is called Bizee now, and it has been since 2023.

The name is the least interesting difference between these two services. The one that costs you money is the registered agent line.

First, the name

Incfile rebranded to Bizee in December 2023. Almost everything carried over. The company's own rebrand page lists what stayed the same: leadership, the operating team, customer accounts, orders, documents, service offerings, pricing and even login credentials. It has operated since 2004.

So this is not an acquisition or a new business. It is the same company under a new name, which matters because plenty of published comparisons still use the old one, including the URL you probably arrived through.

Bizee says on its homepage that over 1,000,000 businesses have used it. LegalZoom says it has formed more than 4 million since 2001.

Pricing

Both start at $0 plus your state fee, which runs from $35 in Montana to $500 in Massachusetts. LegalZoom figures come from its LLC pricing page, read on 18 August 2026.

At the top tier they tie. In the middle Bizee is $50 cheaper. Neither gap decides anything, which brings us to the line that does.

Registered agent: the line that decides it

Bizee includes one full year of registered agent service free with every formation package, including the free Silver plan. That is stated directly on its LLC page. LegalZoom includes it with nothing and charges $249 a year.

Bizee's $149 comes from its own registered agent page, which prices the standalone service at "$149/year" beside the free-first-year offer. We read it on 19 August 2026.

Worth flagging, because it changes the answer. Several well-known review sites report this figure as $119 a year. Bizee's own page says $149. That $30 gap is small on its face and large in effect: it is enough to move Bizee from first place to second in the table below.

The price is also published on an unexpected URL, under business management rather than the obvious registered agent path, which is probably why the wrong number circulates so widely.

What three years actually costs

Formation is a one-off. The agent is not.

Method: formation once, agent at each provider's published rate, state fees excluded because they are identical whichever you pick.

Two things fall out of that table.

Bizee costs about a third of LegalZoom over three years on the cheapest path. That gap is the real story of this comparison, and nothing in LegalZoom's feature list closes $698.

But Bizee does not win outright. Northwest lands at $289 against Bizee's $298, a $9 difference over three years. At that margin the deciding factor is service rather than price, and Northwest includes Privacy by Default and same-day document scanning. Bizee counters that it owns and operates its own offices in all 50 states rather than outsourcing, a claim it makes directly on its registered agent page.

Note what happens if you use the $119 figure that circulates in secondary reports: Bizee's total drops to $238 and appears to beat Northwest by $51. It does not. Going to the source reversed the ranking.

Filing speed

Neither company is fast, and LegalZoom is notably slow.

LegalZoom's standard processing runs 15 to 20 business days on every tier. Paying $99 to expedite brings that to 5 to 10 business days. Bizee includes expedited filing through its internal queue on the Platinum plan; its standard queue is not published as a fixed number of days.

What is in each package

Bizee Silver, $0 plus state fees covers the name search, the articles of organization and the state filing. You also get an online dashboard with order tracking, lifetime company alerts, and the free first year of registered agent service.

Bizee Gold, $199 adds an EIN, a banking resolution, an operating agreement template, IRS Form 2553 preparation for an S corp election, and business banking referrals.

Bizee Platinum, $299 adds expedited filing, business contract templates and a domain name credit.

LegalZoom Basic, $0 covers the name check, the articles and the state filing, plus a digital welcome packet and a tax consultation. Pro at $249 adds an operating agreement, an EIN, a 150-document library and a Wix website. Premium at $299 adds bookkeeping tools for six months.

The Form 2553 preparation in Bizee Gold is worth noting if you expect to elect S corp treatment later, though the election itself is one IRS form you can file yourself. The trade-off is set out in LLC vs S corp.

Where LegalZoom actually wins

Three things, and they are real.

Attorney access. LegalZoom's independent attorney network has no Bizee equivalent. Read the duration before you weigh it: Pro and Premium include unlimited 30-minute consultations as a 30-day subscription, after which access costs $49 a month.

Catalogue breadth. Trademarks, DBAs, annual reports, business licences, estate planning and corporation and nonprofit filings all sit in one account. It is the widest catalogue of any service we track.

Published accountability. LegalZoom has traded on the NASDAQ since June 2021, which means audited quarterly results. Bizee publishes nothing comparable.

Those disclosures are worth reading as a buyer, not just an investor. In its second quarter 2026 results, reported on 5 August 2026, LegalZoom posted revenue of $205.3 million with subscription revenue up 11% and annual small business retention around 57%.

More than four in ten small business subscribers do not renew. That is the clearest evidence available about how buyers in this category actually value recurring services after a year, and it applies to the Bizee renewal decision just as much as to LegalZoom's.

Two further disclosures matter. Full-year guidance was cut to $795 to $805 million from $810 to $830 million, and a 13% workforce reduction was announced alongside it. Support capacity usually feels a cut that size first.

What the public record says

LegalZoom's split confuses readers, so it is worth explaining. A BBB letter grade measures how a company answers complaints, not how many it receives or how satisfied customers are. Its scale explains part of the volume too, having formed roughly four times as many businesses.

On both, the filing itself rarely draws complaints. Billing, renewals and cancellations do.

Verdict

Pick Bizee if cost over time is the deciding factor. A free first year of registered agent on the $0 plan is the most valuable thing either company gives away, and the three-year total is about a third of LegalZoom's. Budget $149 a year from year two, not the $119 you will read elsewhere.

Pick LegalZoom if you want a lawyer available, need trademarks or estate planning in the same account, or place weight on buying from a company that files audited results. You are paying a real premium for it.

Pick Northwest if you want the cheapest reliable path from a service we have reviewed in full. At $39 to form with the first agent year free and $125 after, it lands at $289 over three years with published pricing throughout.
